The UK remains the leading location for moms and dads choosing a boarding education for their children, according to research by the Boarding Schools’ Association.
The report, produced in collaboration with BSA, British Association of Independent Schools with International Students and Chinese education expert Connexcel, built upon comparable research from 2021. This year, it looked at study responses from 1,100 Chinese families with kids currently boarding at UK schools or signed up to begin boarding in the next two years – – roughly 23% of the total number.
Robin Fletcher, CEO, BSA and BSA Group stated “UK boarding delights in an excellent track record all over the world”.
“It has a long and happy tradition of inviting worldwide students, from China and around the world, and we’re pleased this study suggests that if schools continue to fulfill moms and dads’ and trainees’ needs, this will continue to be the case,” he continued.
Some 96% of potential moms and dads surveyed chose the UK as their favored study location for their child.
According to Fletcher, the results of the study shows “beyond doubt the confidence Chinese parents have in British boarding”.
However, the report highlights that other areas have actually seen a boost from in 2015 which might be a signal that moms and dads are now exploring other locations post-pandemic. For instance, the US continues to be the second option research study location and according to the report, has actually seen a 20% boost for both pre-university and university entryway.

While in 2015, 77%of participants said this held true, in the current research study it increased to 85 %. In a survey asking what matters most to parents, the overwhelming majority voted that the quality of education their child gets and the security and safety of the nation are the more vital factors. A more 44% highlighted a nation’s openness to international trainees.
Other crucial findings show how much moms and dads value the work of a premium agent to assist them in discovering the right school for their child as 85% of those surveyed felt the most essential source of details when choosing a school came from educational representatives.
The report also highlights that 80% of Chinese families make their application to UK boarding schools through a representative, which is an increase of 15% from last year.
The report specified that, “Finding the ideal agent is important, both for the school and the moms and dad. Experience recommends there are no faster ways and great representatives attract suitable households for specific schools.
“There are threats in dealing with unverified or unskilled agents. Schools need to beware of agents who charge high fees and attract moms and dads who lack judgement,” it added.

Caroline Nixon, international and membership director at BSA and director of BAISIS, said, “Overall their reactions are exceptionally positive and the problems experienced by those children and their families as a result of the pandemic have done extremely little to dent their interest for British education.
“The many benefits of boarding education in the UK, varying from portable qualifications which open the door to entry into top universities in any country in the world, to outstanding pastoral arrangement, to networking opportunities, to increased confidence and independence, still exist,” she added.
